Due for maintenance and a smog?
If scheduled maintenance like spark plugs or filters is genuinely due, we can handle it around the same visit as your smog check. If the check engine light is on, or the vehicle fails the smog, we diagnose the real problem rather than guessing that it needs a tune-up.
Tune-up or diagnostic?
A tune-up is maintenance. If the car has a check engine light, a rough idle that came on suddenly, or a misfire code, that’s a diagnostic first, so you don’t pay for plugs the car didn’t need. Pair the tune-up with an oil change and it’s one visit.

Will a tune-up help me pass smog?
It can, if plugs or filters are genuinely due; worn plugs and dirty filters raise emissions. It isn't a guarantee, and it isn't something to buy just because a smog is due. If the check engine light is on or the car fails, we diagnose the actual problem rather than guessing it needs a tune-up.
How often do I need one?
We go by your manufacturer's schedule, not a sales quota. If you're not sure when the plugs were last done, we can pull one and show you.
How much is a tune-up?
It depends on the engine: how many cylinders, what plugs it takes, and whether coils are due. We quote it for your vehicle before we start.
My engine is misfiring. Is that a tune-up?
Sometimes. A misfire can be a plug or a coil, but it can also be a sensor, an injector or a vacuum leak. If the check engine light is on, start with the diagnostic so the right part gets replaced.
